- JCIMED Opening Ceremony Marks New Era in Hong Kong Medical Education
The Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (HKAM) celebrated a significant milestone with the official opening ceremony of the Jockey Club Institute of Medical Education (JCIMED) on the evening of 14 April 2025. The event marked the culmination of extensive planning and development efforts to establish a state-of-the-art medical training hub in Hong Kong.
Dr. Benny Cheng, Honorary Director of JCIMED, delivered the welcome address, highlighting that "JCIMED represents our commitment to innovation in medical training and professional development." He announced that the renovation of the institute has been completed, made possible through generous funding from the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
A commemorative plaque was set up during the ceremony, honouring the benefactors and marking the official opening. Attendees participated in a traditional roast pig cutting ceremony, symbolizing prosperity for the new endeavour.
Key figures present included Prof. Philip Li (President of HKAM), Prof. Gilberto Leung (Immediate Past President), Prof. Clement Tham (Vice President of Education and JCIMED Steering Committee Chairman), and Dr. Benny Cheng (JCIMED Operation Committee Chairman).
Prof. Li emphasized HKAM's vision: "The Academy envisions JCIMED becoming a centrepiece of our educational framework. Through this institute, we will enhance the quality of specialist training and continuing professional development."
The JCIMED aims to promote innovation in medical training methodologies, serve as a hub for simulation-based learning, foster research across medical specialties, and enhance specialist training in Hong Kong.
The ceremony concluded with group photos capturing the leadership team and committee members who brought the JCIMED vision to reality.
